The IoT Lab is where I share my thoughts and analysis of the general Internet of Things (IoT) space.
Over my time working within the IoT space I quickly realized that IoT was a journey toward ecosystems and that value from the IoT investment and digital transformation of organizations would increase over that journey. Also, a picture started to solidify on what any IoT Solution would require, regardless of IoT Vertical that solution was focusing on, from a technical functionality perspective. I formalized this picture into my IoT Solution Framework and have been using it as part of my personal analysis of IoT Vendors. This framework can be simplified down into these 7 areas:
More and more of the framework’s functionality has been added into the major cloud vendor’s service offerings. And for many of these functions, that is the most cost effective and scalable place to live. Based on you’re unique business / governance / regulatory requirements, some of these functions may live within your private cloud. Data at rest and the associated insight being the most obvious.
