One of the recurring requests I hear from my clients is for a list or diagram showing the network ports that are used by the various VMware products and components. Thanks to some of my VMware Professional Service Colleagues for creating and allowing me to share with you the VMware Network Port List. I’ll keep this under the VMW Launchpad section of the blog and try to update it as time permits.
Virtualization Link Roundup 20090710
Short list this week (I think many people are still on extended vacations), but one time sensitive item I wanted to let everyone know about…
VMware Specific Links
- Run it with VMware! Video Contents – get crackin’, deadline is July 20th for your chance to win $5000 cash grand prize!
- Scalability Study for Deploying VMware View on Cisco UCS and EMC V-Max Systems – from our friends at Cisco
- Virtual Iron Safe Passage Promotion – Oracle may be discontinuing development of Virtual Iron, but VMware is there to help Virtual Iron customers save their virtualization efforts (for a limited time)
- VMware vSphere 4: Exchange Server on NFS, iSCSI, and Fibre Channel (pdf) – even if you’re not interested in virtualizing exchange, this is a great comparison of different storage protocol performance in vSphere 4.
- First vSphere Patches Released by VMware – via Jason Boche
- vSphere Client on Mac OS X – while this is not a native vSphere client on Mac OS X, it is an alternate way (maybe even faster) of running the vSphere client than having a Windows VM in Fusion (via Punching Clouds…still love that name!)
- Energy Efficiency: Build a Green IT Infrastructure with Virtualization – A client of mine recently mentioned that they have fallen behind in applying for their state tax credits for virtualizing their data centers. This made me realize that maybe people don’t even know about this. Check with your local tax man and this portal for additional information.

Maintenance Notice
Just a quick note to let everyone know that I did some back end maintenance on the blog tonight. If anyone notices anything that doesn’t look right, please let me know. The maintenance was rather simple, but you know Murphy and his darn law…
